Gunnar Sandin

 

Research

Gunnar Sandin is associate professor at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment.

His research interests include: Visual and material culture studies of architecture and urban development; Participatory practices in art and architecture; Theories of place, land use and urban planning; Human’s right to space; Space theory and the semiotics of space; Critical regional and cultural studies; Intercultural influences in contemporary architecture and city planning; Theoretical and Applied Aesthetics; Arts-based research methods with a cultural analysis approach; Artistic institutional critique and art institutions’ relation to society; Self-positioning in artistic activity; Inter-art studies.

He is director of research studies, and chair of the research staff committee at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, at LTH/LU. He is also chair of the program committee of the Swedish national research school in architecture (ResArc).

Sandin supervises doctoral students in subjects related to architecture, planning and visual arts. And teaches design and architecture theory at graduate and post-graduate level.
